About this park

Cleveland Stadium was huge and cold — a lakefront bowl where home runs were rumors for decades before the fences crept in. Cavernous foul ground ate popups. Pitchers smiled; hitters counted outs in the gaps.

When the wind came off Erie the place could feel empty even full. Managers who stacked power still had to wait for warm nights and cooperative air. It was less a bandbox than a weather station with base paths.
