About this park

Baker Bowl was a bandbox with a tin wall in right — the kind of porch that turned ordinary pull swings into souvenirs. Left and center asked for more; right field was a dare. The place was tight in foul ground and loud in the seats, a Philadelphia cigar-box park where the fence did half the talking.

Bats that lived on the card already knew the porch. Pitchers who worked Baker Bowl lived on the outer half and prayed for cloudy days. It is gone now, but the geometry still reads clear from the library: short right, tin wall, no mercy for a mistake in on the hands of a left-handed hitter.
