By 1930 the Fordham Flash had stopped being a rumor in New York and settled as a St. Louis fact. The December '26 Hornsby swap sent him west, and here he was, four summers later, owning the keystone outright. The numbers read like a doubles machine gone loose: 187 hits, 46 two-baggers, and 114 ribbies from a switch-hitting second baseman. A .346 clip. The Gas House was still a few years from ignition, but the pilot light was lit. Somewhere in those 133 games, the lore got its hooks in.
